PROSE & CONS 4-U

1982

The “Prose & Cons 4-U “ series consists of stretched canvas panels, 24”x 30”, painted with black acrylic.  In the center is a 6” square of gold chinese tea box paper containing the prose.  Hanging from that is a 6” round medallion, either collaged or painted.  at the bottom of the canvas is a 6” high strip of mirror with a 6” wide shelf of mirror extending out from the bottom.  Hanging from the left side is a magnifying glass.  Each shelf contains a votive candle, incense burner, a small tea tin and a wood tea box and various other objects pertaining to the prose.  The visual elegance of the upper square of canvas plays with the lower mirrored area reflecting a collection of miscellaneous objects out of context, a mixture of familiar trash with ambiguous meanings.  They are altars for reflection, contemplation and meditation.
